A neuroblastic tumor characterized by the presence of neuroblastic cells, the absence of ganglion cells, and the absence of a prominent Schwannian stroma formation.
In the CNS, neuroblastomas belong to a heterogeneous group of malignant embryonal tumours (primitive neuroectodermal tumours, CNS PNETs), occurring predominantly in children and adolescents. They may arise in the cerebral hemispheres, brain stem, or spinal cord, and are composed of undifferentiated or poorly differentiated neuroepithelial cells. If ganglion cells are also present, the term cerebral ganglioneuroblastoma is used 1
