Polar spongioblastoma was originally defined as a rare, benign glioma histopathologically characterized by symmetrical palisading of tumor cell nuclei on the background of a fibrillary matrix.
In 1999, a WHO Working Group recommended to delete 'polar spongioblastoma' from the WHO classification 1
