Round cell osteosarcoma

ICD-O-3 topography code: C40-C41
ICD10: C40-C41

Small cell osteosarcoma is a variant of osteosarcoma, composed of small cells with variable degrees of osteoid production. Most tumours arise from the metaphysis of long bones. They contain a lytic component, with aggressive destruction of the cortex, and typically mineralized tissue.
Small cell osteosarcoma occurs in all age groups with a peak incidence in the second decade of life. There is a slight predilection for females (ratio 1.1 to 1). The prognosis is usually unfavorable and somewhat worse than that for conventional osteosarcoma 1
