Well differentiated liposaroma (WDL) is a locally agressive mesenchymal neoplasm that consists of mature neoplastic adipocytes, with foci that show significant cellular and nuclear atypia both in adipocytes and stromal cells.
WDL does not metastasize, except in cases with progressve dedifferentiation. In surgically amenable locations excision is usually curative.
The terms well differentiated liposarcoma (WDL) and atypical lipomatous tumour (ALT) are used synonymously. The latter term is mainly used for easily accesible tumours for which surgical excision is often curative. This term is, therefore, mainly used in the clinical setting 1
