Renal oncocytoma is a benign, well-circumscribed, non-encapsulated neoplasm of the renal epithelium thought to arise from intercalated cells. It is histologically characterized by solid compact nests, acini, tubules, or microcysts (the latter may be filled with red blood cells) and often associated with a hypocellular hyalinized stroma. The predominant cell type is the "oncocyte", a large cell with densely granular and mitochondria-rich eosinophilic cytoplasm 1
